Thread Attributes

Initialization

int pthread_attr_init(pthread_attr_t * attr);

int pthread_attr_destroy(pthread_attr_t * attr);

• The attr created with pthread_attr_init generates an equivalent thread as does NULL. This is useful for finding out what the default thread attributes are.
• No static attribute initializer.

Detach State

int pthread_attr_getdetachstate(pthread_attr_t * attr, int * state);

int pthread_attr_setdetachstate(pthread_attr_t * attr, int state);

• State must be PTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED or PTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE
• The default is always PTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE
• There is no runtime method of finding out the detachstate

• Very useful for cleaning up allocated data used as the argument to the initial routine of a thread
• Not POSIX
